Let's have a look at what's making news around the world this week in Mass Timber Construction Land And the global developer that is the Hines Development cohort has had a successful opening of their flagship T3 development in a place called Collingwood in Melbourne in Victoria in Australia. The tour was recently held at the T3, which stands for Timber Transit and Technology, and the Mass Timber building is one of the finest buildings in the Asia Pacific region within the Heinz portfolio group. The Collingwood office is located at 36 Wellington Street, around 3km north-east of the Melbourne CBD, and is a 15-story heavy timber building spanning 18,200 square metres, and the University of Melbourne in Australia has had great representation for its Sense Scraper New York City third-place winning design, and the Financial District of Manhattan is best known for its fast-paced lifestyle. Now, despite all of its popularity, the area is often criticised for having half the limited green spaces and contributes to less stress and anxiety when these are available for residents to enjoy. So the Sense Scraper is a mixed-use building that incorporates mass timber construction, explores concepts of biofilia, and the building was designed as the third-place overall urban OASIS winner in the recent CTBUH competition for the 2022 Student Tour Building Design Competition. So congratulations to everyone on the team from Melbourne University. And Mortensen's is looking to target zero carbon on its $74 million engineered building in Washington State. The four-story, 54,000 square feet facility targets zero carbon zero energy certifications through the International Living Future Institute. According to Mortensen's project page, combining a green building guidelines with mass timber and cross-laminated timber structure will reduce the environmental impact of the project. It's been incredibly rewarding to be part of their team collective efforts to reduce embodied and operational carbon for this facility throughout the design and construction. According to Jennifer Kim from Mortensen's, we love making collaborative approaches with clients and WWU who provide value-added solutions for identifying the best sustainable, focused opportunities early on, and we can't wait to start the building as the first of its kind facility, while we're also tracking our own personal sustainability efforts on site. Congratulations to the team at Mortensen's. It's going to be an epic build And the Passive House Australia Association is reporting the first Australian Nursing and Midriffery Federation Hotel, located in Victoria and Connell Streets in Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne, australia, adjacent to the AMF headquarters.
The eight-level 29-room hotel sits behind a fully restored Heritage Facade and applies the Passive House techniques. Congratulations to all of the team members, including multiplex WSP structures, hip V, hype, stantech and X-Lam who supplied the material. And so that's it, folks.
