Thanks very much for joining us for another weekly update on what's happening around mass Timber construction land in the world. If you haven't done so already, please hit the subscribe button so that you never miss an episode of these very important updates, as we bring the news to you from the world of research, engineering, science, construction management, urban design, development, etc. And we make sure that you have it in bite sized chunks so you can hear what's happening around the world each week. Let's have a look at what's making news around the world this week, and the big news coming out of the EU right now is the public consultation for the EU's policies to drive the whole of carbon conversation. So looking at life cycle analysis and assessment based on building typologies across the domain of building types, from residential all the way through to utilitarian buildings such as libraries and education institutions, etc. The applications have been requested for people within the EU and outside the EU, thankfully for people who are dual citizens. That also provides you with an opportunity to have your say. The web link is on our mass Timber construction journal LinkedIn feed and if you go to that survey, you will be asked a series of questions to give your opinion about the application of policies that relate to whole of carbon situations and analysis for projects that may impact you in the future. Contributions that are made are made in confidence and they will be amalgamated into a single sort of document or assessment item and those results will obviously be released at some point in the near future. So, please, it is an important piece of information. If you are in the EU or you are outside the EU and you know something about carbon life cycle analysis and construction material types and typologies, you can make a contribution. And to Australia now. And a bit of a shout out to Nick Husson and ex-colleague and a good friend of mine who was the previous head of design at XLAM when we started the XLAM team, rob Debrinkat myself, nick Husson. Nick worked on a project called Iron Creek Bay Farm Stay, which is an accommodation stay development in Tasmania and Australia. It's now been shortlisted for the prestigious World of Architecture Festival in 2023. The event is going to be held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on the 29th to the 1st of December, so that's 29th November to the 1st of December. So good luck, nick and Micho, who were on the project from the very start. A great CLT project. And a new 50,000 square feet. Development is coming soon to East 7th Street and Pernales Street in East Austin. Scott and Cooner, the contemporary and modern European furniture store, will occupy the ground floor of the tenancy and it will expand its showroom space into the current DC and A offices, while fort structures will have 4,000 feet in the newly developed area. And the British Columbia government is providing four million dollars for 12 new mass timber demonstration research projects, which includes a global leadership arena to try and develop and utilize mass timber products and technologies to be able to reduce greenhouse carbon emissions while changing the face of construction throughout its province. It's great to see Ireland getting in on the mass timber and biodiversity act when it comes to the built environment, and the Department of Housing, local Government and Heritage, together with the Department of Enterprise, trade and Employment, have developed short introductory guides on the modern methods of construction. I'm very pleased to say that this includes penalized construction, volumetric systems and systems that are otherwise conducive to things other than more traditional materials, and includes timber. So congratulations to everyone in the Irish government that is trying to change and drive a different agenda for construction for the future. And finally, junior agriculture minister Senator Pippa Hackett has announced a call for expression of interests to participate in a new timber in construction working group Assessing regulatory and standardization challenges. The group will be tasked with examining conditions to increase the use of timber and construction, assessing regulatory issues, standardization challenges to the greater use and adoption of mass timber whilst maximizing the use of homegrown timber. So it's great to see Hackett getting involved in something that is now driving the mass timber industry and potentially continuing that conversation in the UK.
