Let's have a look at what's making news around the world this week in Mass Timber Construction Land, and first up, we have the new seven-story villa heights development that will add flourishing retail and parks to the Axios Charlotte building. The project is known for providing the best of urbanist. Charlotte developers have big plans to weave the seven-story mixed-use building into villa heights, the hip and relatively new stretch of business and parks in the area. The project is known for promoting walkability and sustainability. The project is going to incorporate natural materials, bio-based materials, including brick facade, and using mass timber. Operations and strategy director of the project tells Axios. In a recent announcement, the salmon safe BC certification recognises the building's implementation of sustainable land and water management practices within British Columbia. It's dedicated to protecting the habitat of aquatic health and ecosystems in the surrounding areas, creating more liberal communities for everybody concerned. The salmon safe works with the West Coast Farmers, developers and Environmental Initiative that produces better outcomes for landowners to reduce watershed impacts through rigorous third party verification. The current under construction 160,000 square foot 10-story building has also targeted a lead gold certification. It includes a bio-filic design principle throughout its interior and its exterior. With the building, the project will use none other than mass timber construction. Congratulations to the team at dialogue. Congratulations to salmon safe certification. And one of two students awarded a research scholarship recently by the Canadian Wood Council says her approaches to her. Research on biobased adhesives and cross-lemonaded timber is her passion. Alex Mary is a third year PhD candidate in the Wood and Biobased Materials Engineering at Lovell University in Quebec City. Her application in 2023 to the scholarship impressed the council so far that its dual pledges to pursue environmental sustainability and product performance measures through research awarded her an amazing scholarship. The focus of her research lies in exploring the potential for replacing petrochemicals used in most CLT production with recycled biobased protein materials such as soybean meal, micro berry, us bent grains, skim milk powder and even shrimp cells. She wrote in her project description submitted to the Wood Council that her research has the potential to revolutionise the way wood industry is approaching adhesives and aligns perfectly with the Canadian Wood Council and Canada's primary climate goal initiatives. And it's all happening in Canada, as Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood could be soon home to the world's tallest hybrid residential building. An application from Enrique Partners Architects, on behalf of West Bank projects, goes to public hearing on the 23rd of January with a 25 story rental high rise at Main Street and Fifth Avenue. Hybrid timber construction has become popular in Vancouver, with staff reporting pointing out that the city is a leader in North America, with an increasing number of large developments incorporating mass timber as the primary structural element.
