Show Notes

In this weeks episode, the first Rothoblaas srl ROTHOTALK took place in 2020: the topics addressed were related to structural design of timber buildings. The event was a great success and this year we decided to replicate it with a focus on acoustics.  Ahead of its 60th anniversary, Toronto Montessori School unveils a new Bayview campus lobby and atrium, designed to encapsulate nature using wood structural elements and natural light to welcome students, teachers, staff, and parents. In order to reduce the ‘green’ half of Sweden’s carbon emissions—those that come from the country’s forest industries—Anders Berensson architects proposes the world’s largest timber structure: the bank of norrland. Daramu House is an evolution of its sister building, International House Sydney. Together they complete the first stage of the Barangaroo South precinct, establishing the unique and desirable character of mass timber construction in the competitive CBD office market. Daramu House has been designed to present a cohesive and inviting public threshold to Barangaroo South, providing a transition in scale between the three towers and Sussex Street, establishing a 7 storey street wall and continuous colonnade edge to the precinct.. The World Architecture Festival (WAF) has revealed The Ariake Gymnastics Centre and Mon Repos Turtle Centre are among the eight projects shortlisted for 2021 Best Use of Certified Timber - supported for the third year in a row by Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
