In this week's episode, Stephanus van der Westhuyzen, a structural engineer at Zutari, has carried out a research study on the economic viability of multi-storey mass timber buildings in South Africa, focusing on a development cost comparison between mass timber frame and reinforced concrete frame building. Safety can be further enhanced if you use timber that has been treated with a specialist flame retardant, which will provide the material with an invisible shield to help protect against fire. The Edison, a 15-story building with around 200 units coming to 1005 N. Edison St., will take about 16 months to complete, with a goal to be open by late summer 2023. Beginning in April, Mitsubishi Estate Co. will sell single-story houses made exclusively from Japan-grown timber. Construction of the new Terminus at District 56 commercial building has been completed in Langford, B.C. Structurlam Mass Timber Corporation worked on the five-storey mass timber post-and-beam building in partnership with Design Build Services and Aspect Structural Engineers.  A new article from Paul Kremer, our founder, for the New Year! Welcome to 2022. Paul writes " There are several large companies around the world focusing on mass timber construction as a viable alternative solution in meeting corporate sustainability objectives and measures in property development. Be it, a corporate head office, a campus building, or even a retail shopping precinct, the evidence is mounting that mass timber solutions are a pivotal and necessary response to meeting the reductions of C02 emission in construction, and beyond." Find out why they are changing the way we all construct.
