Speaker 1:In Mass Timber Construction Land, hazelene Construction, in its partnership with the East-West partners of 4240, architecture recently installed one of the largest structural panels on the Aurora residents in Snowmass, one of the first cross-laminated timber structures in the Rocky Mountain regions in the US. Designed with sustainability in mind, aurora will be powered 100% by renewable energy, utilize an efficient shell to regulate temperature and feature special triple pane windows and other sustainable building material choices. Clt was chosen because it's an industry-leading product that now provides a sustainable solution, not only in terms of the product but also the process, said Brian Hunt, who is the project manager on the project. He said he's thrilled to be able to pioneer this method in the Rocky Mountains, especially as it will help protect where the teams live and work and the future for many of the construction teams in that area as a subcontractor in the Roaring Fork Valley region. If you'd like to see some more of this amazing project, the Aurora residents at Snowmass, please head to the Mass Timber Construction Journal linked in feed.
Speaker 1:In the heartland of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, french architect Vincent Calabon conceptualizes the greenhouses, a car-free timber eco district with 10,000 square metres of urban park dedicated solely to pedestrians and cyclists. The project, as he says, aims to reactivate the site's flower cultivation heritage, which was once powered by the greenhouses that were in the area. It was dominated by open land, extensive flowering meadows and major fruit trees, and this became an urban freshness island, which would benefit from the rainwater retention and offering its citizens a peaceful place and a utopian residential green space. Continuing in the north-south mall of the Quartier de Carles, this San Fernando Boros 117m tower, the Cedar Tower, will be located in the park as it widens out over 10,000 square metres towards the south, welcoming public services shared with the surrounding urban fabric and allowing for continuity between the north-south and the soft mobility between Rijon station and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in La Saune. And the continuation of large corporates jumping on the sustainability bandwagon has continued with the first mass timber constructed McDonald's restaurant in Sao Paulo in Brazil. Located in one of the busiest intersections in Sao Paulo, the 2,150 square foot or 220 square metre building was part of America's first fast food chain for the recipe for the future, as part of an initiative that was completed this year. If you'd like to see the amazing McDonald's storm adder of mass timber with some beautiful bracing frames, a beautiful glass facade that looks almost like something from Renzo Piano, please head to our mass timber construction journal, linked in feed and if anyone goes to Sao Paulo and has McDonald's at this place, please tell me whether it's a different experience or not. And if you haven't checked out yet our social media feed, you can go and have a look at the NTU building with Wood Tech, savcon, steel Alley and the amazing people at Dongseng who put together an amazing project.
Speaker 1:This particular video was dedicated to a good friend and colleague, gary Corfield. May he rest in peace. And we have seen some incredible photos come out of the finished building. This is one that shows you what it was like to build it. In terms of volume of CLT, it was 7,670 cubic metres of mass timber building products, the cross laminated timber and VHAC provided 6,130 Rue laminated timber columns and beam structures. The connection systems were by Pitzl and Rothobar. Speck and Gory was the timber coating that was placed onto the building material. So if you haven't watched the video, please head to our LinkedIn feed and you'll be able to see that very, very soon. And finally, this week, to bring you some news from Australia, the next timber by Timberlink Press has been tested and the first panel for CLT has been delivered and you can actually go and see the image of the large press bed where there is a small CLT panel being placed on a bed, which has just come out of the press, and you'll be able to see those images. So congratulations to everyone at Timberlink for their CLT and GLT testing and proving in the Australian context, and we look forward to seeing what you bring to light very, very soon.
Speaker 1:So that's it, folks. That's all we've got time for in mass timber construction land. It's been a busy week.
