So thank you to the entire team at the International Mass Timber Conference. Let's have a look at what's making news around the world this week.
Speaker 1:In mass timber construction, land works are complete with the with secure's new hq. Construction of the building is using 600 tons of wood, which is said to have resulted in the carbon handprint of around six kilograms. The building structure is supported by 197 glulam pillars, 313 cross-laminated timber slabs or panels, and the facade features a kilometer of aqua wood panels, with the lobby and the sculptural ceiling crafted from 46 cubic meters of spruce clt timber panels. The office will optimize, recycle energy from the 200 square meters of solar panels installed on its roof. The SRVs are pursuing leadership in energy, environmental design. Platinum and the environmental certification for the building with an energy class rating of a construction with excavation was in mid-2022 and the program was completed just recently. Congratulations to everyone that worked on that project.
Speaker 1:Construction of the new Alki Elementary School is to begin. The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections has issued a building permit for the project to begin. The Seattle Public Schools received the notification in July 2024 and construction will begin later in this month of July. The existing gymnasium in Seattle Parks Department Community Center is being retained, with some improvements made. Construction on the new project will include a learning environment design that meets the needs of academic success for all students. The entrance will feature a city-owned park boulevard between the district's property and the playfield, enhancing connections to the community. The building design incorporates energy conservation measures, work towards spPS's goals for clean energy and renewable resources, and includes a high efficient heating, air conditioning, daylight in classrooms and student spaces. The entire structure will be made out of cross-laminated timber, which helps reduce the carbon footprint. Speaker 1:The Real American Hardwood Coalition and the National Hardwood Lumber Association, in partnership with the US Forestry Service, has launched a new website, which is called realamericanhardwoodpro. The website was developed to educate architects, interior designers and construction professionals on the attributes of real American hardwood products. Speaker 1:There will be more to see at the Toronto Zoo very, very soon, as the new site development for the Toronto Zoo Community Conservation Centre, the TZC3, is going to be under construction very, very soon. The project will include two three-storey buildings. The guest services building will be 13,000 square feet and the academic building will be 13,000 square feet, and the academic building would be 20,000 square feet.
