Looking forward to 2025 and bringing you a fifth year, fifth consecutive year of bringing you news from all over the world in mass timber construction land every week, plus interlude guest episodes. Hopefully we'll get some more this year. It's been a very busy year to try and line people up, but we will do our best for next year. Let's have a look at what's making news around the world for the last week of 2024 in mass timber construction land. And the big news this week is coming out of Japan with construction photos of the Grand Ring, a vast wooden structure that will encircle the pavilions at the upcoming 2025 Osaka Expo. The photos reveal the progress of the 60,000 square meter structure, which is being built on an artificial island specifically for the Expo, according to the event organizers using the glue laminated timber to create this two kilometer long, 700 meter circumference grand ring. The intended purpose of this ring is to serve as a symbol of unity for the 161 participating countries at the expo. The expo brings everyone together, different countries that stay there for six months, and the format is very precious, especially in the crisis of the global situation that we're currently in. If you'd like to see these impressive photos of this impressive ring made out of glue-laminated timber, you will be able to run to our LinkedIn feed or you can go to dezencom D-E-Z-E-Ncom and look up Osaka Construction 2025 Expo and you'll be able to look at the images there.

Speaking of ominous structures, the Sydney Fish Market, the new Sydney Fish Market from 3XN, has topped out in Australia with a 700 square foot building, becoming the largest fish market to have a large glulam roof structure in the most impressive way. This is the largest structure in the southern hemisphere. Its pv panel roof is calibrated to withstand high winds while meeting the spatial demands required by the fish market, and it's held in place by 594 beams that are capable of harvesting rainwater across the roof structure to bring a supply of water to the people that are using the fish markets. Congratulations to local architects, bvn, jxn Innovation and the Landscape Architects Aspect Studios on an impressive project. If you'd like to read more, please head to our LinkedIn feed.

And a landmark announcement in Vietnam's first structural timber association which has been licensed in Vietnam. The years of advocacy by the people who run this particular organization have started to pay off, including an ex-colleague of mine named Neil. Neil Dodonsky has worked to create the structural architect wood association of Vietnam and it's now received its official government license. A ceremony attended to by industry officials marked the significant step forward to develop a thriving mass timber sector in Vietnam. All of the board of director members extended the deepest gratitude to Saigon Constructions and Building Materials Association for their invaluable endorsement of the particular association. If you'd like to read more about this historic event and how mass timber is infiltrating the Southeast Asia sector, please head to our LinkedIn feed.

And infamously named the Silicon Valley of Wood. The University of Grass and the Institute of Timber Technology and Wood Technology have come together with Kauffman, bell Systems and KS Engineering, who have developed a system for modular wooden high-rise building which is designed with the purpose of extending its operating life and lifespan. Thanks to flexible adaptability, the operating life and lifespan of buildings is often far apart, and it is due to the proprietary of long and fit-for-purpose systems that when they're demolished they would unfortunately be damaged and individual parts in the entire system usually cannot be reused. Well, this new Mohoho system, the Mohoho project, has now called for patent and application for the applied systems. You can go and have a look at these unique connection systems and material design systems by heading to our LinkedIn feed or, obviously, going to Grass University Technology and having a look at the patented system.

And back to Australia and a small town near the Ski Alps in New South Wales, which is the city area, is Sydney the New South Wales is the state, just to get your bearings and a little place called Jindabyne and they have a library and community centre building and it is in the Snowy Mountains and it is a beautiful location if you've ever gone there for camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, etc. The library rests on robust stone plinths and paying a deliberate homage to the rugged granite formations in the nearby mountains, and the local architecture now uses the stone as a podium to mimic the mountain landscape and using prefabricated CLT panels to create the structure from an interior finish of the particular library. I believe Nick Hewson was one of the engineers on the project at Abraalus, and it is an impressive building. If you wish to go and have a look at it, head to our LinkedIn feed or head to the Jindabyne Library and Community Centre building to see the project for yourself. And that's it, folks. It's a wrap for 2024.
